Water, water, water
Most forms of detoxification can lead to dehydration, so it's important to drink extra water. Coffee, tea, soda and liquor don't count.
Cleansing herbs
It's important to be careful with herbs like dandelion and senna. Some herbs can act as laxatives or diuretics. Overuse can lead to dependence. You stop taking the herb and now it's tough to go to the bathroom. This is usually not a problem with occasional, moderate usage. Just because something is "natural", doesn't mean you can't overdo it. So moderation is the key here.
The Healing Crisis
When you start a detox, your body may be very happy. Your body goes - wow, finally we are taking out the garbage. One of the problems that may occur is what's commonly called a - healing crisis. The body starts to release toxins from deeper tissues like fat and bone. This can lead to a temporary increase in circulating toxins. This can be uncomfortable, sometimes even life threatening, depending on an individuals situation.
A better chelation
The newest approach to chelation is the use of zeolites. Zeolites are naturally occurring minerals. They have a cage like structure and a negative charge. Because of the unique molecular structure, they have a high affinity for heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic. They have a low affinity for the larger, beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Learn more about zeolites here.
